Some thoughts on the $399 AR-15 & the $223 Silencer

Looking at the industry as a whole.  All I can say is wSome thoughts on the $399 AR-15 & the $223 Silencer ow.

Just when you thought things had reached Rock Bottom in the AR-15 world, the bottom gets even deeper.

One company, I believe it was Palmetto State Armory, announced a $399 AR15  (this was distributor pricing not retail) Shot Show.  Now Del-Ton has followed suit but this is their RETAIL PRICE.

SiCo laid off a large percentage of its work force.

Olympic Arms is closing its doors after over 40 years building AR15s.

With the margins disappearing this fast, it makes you wonder how many manufacturers and gun stores will be going out of business this year. Makes you wonder if this market model, with extremely low to non-existent margins for both manufacturers and retailers, is a sustainable model?

I have often said over the past year that when silencers are removed from the NFA, it will not be long before you see the first $50 Rimfire suppressors and $100.00  30 caliber suppressors.

I am now considering the possibility that this is going to occur without the passage of the HPA?

1.  $399.00 AR-15. PSA & now Del-Ton.
2.  SiCo lays off a large percentage of its
3.  A $223 556 presser. Or $50 Rimfire suppressors and hundred dollar 30 caliber suppressors far behind?
4. Kel Whelan's inciteful article.  http://www.recoilweb.com/whats-quieting-the-silencer-industry-126010.html
5.  Olympic Arms closing

Yep - for a while, everyone is going to be bottom-feeding, I'm afraid.  Having said that - there's always a market for a well-made, properly supported product.  Otherwise, folks like Ft. Knox safes, luxury car dealers, and premium gun manufacturer's would have gone by the wayside long ago.

Are they going to have to streamline?  I have NO doubt.  I also strongly feel that a good part of the costs involved in suppressors is created by all the regulatory stuff they have to comply with.  IF HPA passes, much of those costs will be greatly reduce, if not removed all together - and THAT is what will ultimately even the industry back out.  It's gonna get even harder for them for a while, until things settle down.  In the meantime, if I decide I need/want another suppressor, I'll go ahead and buy it.  Hard to say just how long it'll take for HPA to even be heard in Congress, much less if it'll be passed.

And since I don't drive a Ford Pinto, I ain't gonna be buying any $99 suppressors, either...... O:tu
