Tapatalk Heads up
« on: August 19, 2013, 08:22:42 PM »
I got an email earlier today that tapatalk is going to start pushing ads through the app.  I think they'll show up in the middle of threads and message listings.  Sounds annoying to me so I'll probably opt out of them for us when they start showing out.  But I thought I'd take a look at them before I took any action.  Let me know if you start seeing them.

The good news is they're going to make the app free and make their money off the ads.  Not that it was a huge price tage to begin with ($1.99 I think).

But...but I already paid for the app:(

Maybe the paid version will still be ad free...I hope.

I have the paid version for just that reason. Supposed to be forever ad free.

They weren't very clear.  They'll probably still have an ad free paid version.  Couldn't image they'd turn down money they're already making.

I think the idea is they will now have a free version.  But site owners have to join tapatalk to make it work.  Since it was so popular I added us.  We're supposed to be able to opt out of the ads.  But if that's their new revenue source we might not have that option for too long.  I'll keep you posted.

I use it to.   And from a site admin perspective it Saved me tons of hours of work trying to set the site up with a mobile theme that worked across android and iPhones.

Is it better than the free version 2.0 they just pushed? I miss the older version.

It looks nearly identical to me.  I had the old version and the new version installed on my iPhone.  They both had updates today and after the update they look like they are almost the same version.

The paid/pro version probably has some more features but I don't see them.  It's only a buck.  But I'd save it.

I deleted my "new and improved" update they gave me, re downloaded it and got my old one back. The "new and improved" version is awful.

Sounds like most things that get "improved" these days.

I don't think they really know what the word means???
