Into Crossbows Here.....Anyone else?
« on: September 12, 2013, 12:29:29 PM »
Been into crossbows for some years. My current CB is a Horton Brotherhood. Anyone out there like crossbows?

I have a Barnett cross bow but I don't have anywhere to play with it. First time I shot it in the back I lost an arrow in the ground.

Years ago I was looking into getting one for hunting but like so many things, it got put aside for other stuff.

i had a dimestore 50 lb pistol style crossbow. it was actually fairly accurate and great at nabbing rabbits and small game quietly down in bleiders creek. one day i stepped on it - dont know how it got on the floor, but that was all she wrote.

Wouldn't mind getting another (better) one in the future some time - got any entry level suggestions?

If I had somewhere to hunt.....would buy a nice one as I can't draw a conventional bow due to neck surgery. My only problem is that like in my guns.....I have good taste in Cross Bows. Most everything I like is real expensive.

I've started looking at them....problem being, I've got ZERO knowledge about 'em.  What's the minimum strength recommended for deer hunting at 50-75 yards - I'm eyeballing a Barnett predator - they worth a hoot?  375 lb draw, IIRC.....

The Predator is more than capable for deer hunting with 175 draw weight and a speed of 375 FPS. Per Texas regulations a crossbow has to have a minimum draw weight of 125 lbs.

So.......if your budget was UP TO $1,000.......what would you get?  Quality will rule over price - but by the same token, I don't want to regret this later.  Just can't believe how expensive they are, and frankly, I don't know enough about 'em to judge independently.....

Yeah you can buy a nice 1911 for what some of these crossbows and compound bows cost. I suffered bad case of sticker shock last time I looked. I have always been intrigued by the crossbow that mounts on an AR lower. Probably not practical but super cool. LOL.

Stay dry and safe down there George. Me, I headed to the indoor gun range to burn some powder. Have a good one.

You don't have to get a super expensive one to start. Check on used ones too. I have a Barnett RC 150 I picked up for $60. Works great.

I've played with a few here and there - just thinking about a way to add some challenge to the hunting season......
